Instructions for Using This Manual

The manual is self-instructional. It has general manual objectives and specific chapter objectives. In addition, we have included case studies which serve as a post-test for you to determine if you have acquired the knowledge about various aspects of Quinacrine Sterilization. We suggest that you proceed through the manual in the following way:

1. Read the manual objectives. You will find that being aware of the information you are expected to learn will help you focus on the essential aspects of QS in general.

2. Read Chapter 1 objectives. This serves the same purpose as step 1, however they are more specific to the topic being presented.

3. Read and study the information in Chapter 1.

4. Read the case study and answer the questions that follow it. Do not look back at the chapter to answer the questions.

5. Check your answers against the manual answers which can be found after the end of the last chapter (pages 40-41).

6. If your answer is incorrect, reread the chapter and try to answer the question again.

7. When your answer is correct, proceed to the next chapters in the same way.

8. Turn to the glossary at the end of the chapters, if you read terms that are unfamiliar.

9. After you have completed the chapters, review any information that you found difficult to understand. We have provided a resource guide at the end to provide additional material on selected topics.

Learning Goals of the Manual

Following is a list of the five overall goals of this manual. Each goal is comprised of a number of sub-goals or objectives, which are listed at the beginning of every chapter.
Once you, the learner, have completed this manual, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the criteria used to select appropriate clients for quinacrine sterilizations.
  • List the information and approach necessary to provide an appropriate, accurate and effective quinacrine sterilization counseling session.
  • Safely and accurately perform a quinacrine sterilization procedure.
  • Manage any post-procedure side effects or complications.
  • Know and use necessary infection prevention measures when providing quinacrine sterilizations.
